The room our tours leave from is also a small shop. Not the usual stall trinkets: things picked one by one, with something to tell.
The gladiator wall
The gladiator wall is the one children look at first. Replica gladii and short swords with their scabbards, legionary and murmillo helmets with the red crest, painted shields, laurel wreaths. Next to them the figurines and models: gladiators, legionaries, the Colosseum in miniature.
The travertine magnets
Then there is the thing we are proudest of. The Made of Rome magnets are not printed: they are carved from travertine, the same stone the Colosseum was built with. Reclaimed stone, worked by hand here in Rome, and every piece is different because stone never repeats itself. The panel says «Please, touch history» — and that is literally what happens: you leave with a fragment of the stone that built the city in your pocket.
And everything else
And then everything else. A whole wall of classic Rome magnets, the ones you pick up for friends. Pens, plain and quill, for anyone who wants to write a postcard the old way. Books and illustrated maps to understand the city while you walk it, or to read it again once you are home. And the souvenir coin press, for a keepsake that costs one euro.

None of this is ordered online: you walk in, look and — where allowed — touch. We are at Via del Colosseo 27, open every day except Tuesday. If you have questions about Rome, we are behind the counter.
